Girls: Wimbledon 2015, grass - Grade A (Week 27)

The qualifying draw is out and surprisingly Gabi Taylor has not been given a main draw wildcard. Apart from Katie Swan and Maia Lumsden, who are direct entries, Emily Arbuthnott (if required), Freya Christie, Jodie Burrage, Ali Collins, Lauryn John-Baptiste and Anna Brogan would appear likely to have gained main draw wildcards. Jasmine Asghar draws the same top seed as in Roehampton

QR1

(1) Ioana Diana Pietriou (ROU) v (WC) Jasmine Amber Asghar

(2) Destanee Aiava (AUS) v Georgina Axon

(WC) Elise Van Heuvelen v (16) Berfu Cengiz (TUR)

Eden Richardson v (11) Lesedi Sheya Jacobs (NAM)

(4) Ioana Minca (ROU) v (WC) Georgie Walker

(WC) Emily Appleton v (9) Ludmilla Sanasonova (ITA)

(WC) Eliz Maloney v (10) Panna Udvardy (HUN)

(7) Yue Yuan (CHN) v Gabriella Taylor

(WC) Holly Hutchinson v (14) Karola Patricia Bejenaru (ROU)

Surprised Taylor wasn't more competitive bearing in mind she must have been close to receiving a main draw wildcard.  Good luck to the rest of the girls yet to play today.

The main draw is up on the ITF site.

Freya Christie plays Pervushina, who she beat 6-0,6-0 two days ago.

Anna Brogan lucks out with Vondrousova (1).

Ali Collins plays Zhuk.

Arbuthnott v Tjandramulia.

Swan(5) v Seone Mendez.

Jodie Burrage v Q.

Lumsden v Galfi (3) - Lumsden beat her in R2 in 2014.

John-Baptiste v Neel.

It is the first time I can recall the draw being made before qualifying was scheduled to end, and the first time I am aware of that not all wildcards were used - which makes it more puzzling why Gabi ended up in qualifying (they allocated 7/8 WCs with 5 to Brits + Tornado Black and Anastasia Potapova). Emily and Katie are both in the second quarter, which doesn't appear to be the strongest. Very unlucky to draw all three non-Brit semifinalists from Roehampton (Dalma Galfi going on to win). Freya will be up against second seed Shilin Xu in round 2 if both win their openers.

R1 (L64)

(1) Marketa Vondrousova (CZE) v (WC) Anna Brogan
(WC) Ali Collins v Sofia Zhuk (RUS)  Ct 6 match 1
Emily Arbuthnott v Olivia Tjandramulia (AUS)
Seone Mendez (AUS) v (5) Katie Swan
(Q) Jodie Anna Burrage v(Q) Lucie Wargnier (FRA)
Maia Lumsden v (3) Dalma Galfi (HUN)
(WC) Lauryn John-Baptiste v Ingrid Neel (USA)  Ct 6 match 3
(WC) Freya Christie v Olesya Pervushina (RUS)  Ct 11 match 4

I am watching Ali play for first time. She's playing well. Just little lapses of concentration from time to time that Zhuk takes advantage of. 2 - 3* in 2nd set

A rare chance to see Freya, currently on the BBC livestream, 1-1 first set...

Watching Freya. She is playing just about OK at the moment. It looks like the girl who couldn't get a single game off her in Roehampton learnt a lot. She is 5-2* up. That's junior tennis for you.

Some uncharacteristic errors from Freya to surrender the first set  6 - 2. But I must say her opponent is playing well. Unleashing some aggressive shots to take it.

Freya lost but got a terrible line call in that last game on break point (which would have put her back on serve). Awful - I know it's junior tennis but with tv cameras and slow-mo replays it just highlighted how bad some of the officials are. I also watched Lauryn John-Baptiste and she got a poor call late in the match on a crucial point. Pity.
