Ere, how good are the Skupski's playing here. Neal hit an unbelievable shot to get the decisive break in the 3rd and they really do look like the better team!
R1: (7) Marcin Matkowski & Nenad Zimonjic (POL/SRB) CR 28 (17+11) defeated (WC) Ken Skupski & Neal Skupski CR 249 (125+124) by 7-6(5) 1-6 4-6 7-6(4) 6-4
That must be hard for the brothers to take, given that their service was not broken once until the fifth game of the fifth set, but they have every reason to be proud of their performance. They certainly gave the seventh seeds a fright & really deserved to get something from the match.
Sadly Ken and Neal lost 6-4 in the 5th. Such a tremendous effort against a top pairing. You just feel that with a better draw, they could have made some real progress here. Gutted for them.
Yes, all as one would have expected given rankings and form barring the Skupski's excellent work against the 7th seeds. So sorry they didn't win it ... but well done to them. Their grass court season has been truly fine.

I was delighted to see a full article devoted to Jonny's & Freddie's victory over Martin & Raja in today's Times. It makes the point that their estrangement after their triumph in 2012 was not because there had been a "bust-up, just a prolonged period of estrangement because of differing priorities". ("Freddie says he's not a real tennis player unless he's playing singles, which I understand [& a sentiment many on this MB would doubtless endorse! ], but obviously I feel differently." Marray said yesterday.
Intriguingly, the article also reveals that Jonny...
...has been struggling with a calf injury and made it to the Championships only at the 11th hour after Nielsen answered an SOS call to resume their partnership and was granted a wild card.
He has gone through several doubles partners with little success since splitting from Nielsen, most recently Colin Fleming, the Scot, and after failing to find an alternative in the past few weeks, made another entreaty to the Dane.
It wasn't working for me and Colin so I started looking around for other partners," Marray said. "I wasn't really getting anywhere, so I texted Freddie and asked him if he fancied it. It was a real late scramble to get him a wild card, but given what we did last time, I obviously fancied our chances".
There are further comments, but Jonny concludes:
I'm just glad to be here playing again and it feels great to win a match, as I've not won much recently. Obviously we're trying to win it again, but we don't feel under any pressure.
