I think the nerves got to both Ward and Pospisil and contributed to an overall poor quality match however putting my patriotism aside the Canadian thoroughly deserved to win given his fantastic serving in the 5th set. Given he was serving second he showed no weakness at all. I don't feel as disappointed with this loss as yesterdays Watson heartbreaker.
Ward had a bit of luck with the Ferrer withdrawal, got two wins and is in the top 100 after so many years of trying so should be pleased. I'm not sure how high he can go, top 50 should be his target.
it wasn't a great match, patchy and bit nervy by both. Ward did a good job, overall, but Pospisil's serving was just amazing in that fifth set. He deserved the win.
Poor Heather's was certainly a far bigger heartbreaker . . .
The level of tennis knowledge and research in this country is beyond awful to be honest. There are a handful of decent journalists, but most of the ones at Sky, Eurosport, BBC etc seem to have as much understanding as your typical two-week fan.
SkySports had an article before the tournament about how the organisers had refused to up Nadal's seeding, completely unaware how the seeding actually works. I made a comment pointing out the facts of the matter and surprise surprise it wasn't approved.
They regularly make mistakes and won't take any criticism at all. Does my nut.

But a great week, really, by both...
Agreed; 2 wins for both just what the doctor ordered with Heather's match against Serena above and beyond most expectations (and nearly beyond wildest dreams...which has now become the new expectation ).
