Not to re-open a can of unwanted worms, but I think it's hard to argue now that James hasn't justified his wildcard.
He's exactly the sort of player who thrives on the big crowds, big stage, big matches. So, so happy for the lad

Aye, and surely made things a bit easier for Leon with regards to the Davis Cup too. James' indifferent form this year must have made things a little difficult, but when you factor in his performances in five setters, on grass (well, at Wimbledon anyway) and his previous DC excursions, I don't think its in any doubt now.
I agree about the Bogdanovic label. No need for it and actually I seem to remember that Alex reached 108 in the rankings which so many other Brits never achieve. Never can understand why he was always the whipping boy. Would love to see a lot more Brits reach the level he did.

Wardy has got our Steven tweeting hard this afternoon
He points out that Wardy is the first British WC to make R3 since 2005 (some guy called Murray!)
Let's really hope that monkey is now off his back. He played well watched some of the match (at work) - seemed to cope quite well, understandable wobble in the 3rd set so that break in the 4th worth it's weight in gold (interesting only one break of serve against him all tournament so far)
If he can keep this up then no reason to be scaped of Fognini/Pospisil in the next round.
Hope he valiantly loses the first round of the doubles though - no injuries before DC please.
Excellent bit of journalism from the BBC's Chris Bevan, who happily informs us of the following:
This was only Ward's second career win against a top-50 opponent, following his win over John Isner of the United States in the Davis Cup earlier this year, but again the big occasion saw him produce his best tennis.
Clearly his run to the semis at Queens in 2011, including wins against WR14 Wawrinka and WR26 Querrey just weren't memorable enough...
