RE: Weeks 26 & 27 - Wimbledon - men's main draw (grass)

Terrific wins for both Wardy and Bedene.

I tried to follow both matches and I thought James played very solid. He served well, which is normally the key and stayed back and used the slice to avoid the counter punch. James was clearly the fitter of the two.
Bedene's match was very much baseline dominated, although Radek volleyed very well when he got the chance. It's clearly not Bedene's best surface, but Radek gifted a couple of sets with DF's at crucial stages.
When Bedene served well he looked very comfortable and looked very fit to last 5 sets in the heat comfortably.

I suspect neither player will progress any further, but we can only hope.

Really happy with the men's results, Kyle had the toughest challenge and needed to be 100% to give it a crack so I can live with my disappointment there. James performance was really solid although I didn't see it all.

Good to see him show some grass court form before the DC, although the French probably not quaking in their boots, perhaps a good thing? It's obvious now ... That Hev new exactly what she was doing last night by coming off... what do I know?? Not much

Anyone know where I can see footage of Wardy's match? Refreshed my stream and it's taken me to a generic match report. Really irritating.

Might be able to get it on the BBC iplayer.

Although probably not the entire match as they switched between BBC2 and the red button twice

Brilliant stuff! When was the last time we had FOUR British men in the 2nd round at Wimbo?! great news to come back to, it really is. FAB!

Tough, tough draws in R2, but you can't expect much else in a slam. Good points on the board for all, financial reward to boot, and a chance, a slim chance, of making the last 32. GO ON LADS!

Also, can I ask why Stepanek (WR 202) didn't need a WC for the Main Draw while Liam (182) and Brydan (177) did?

Actually Sue is getting right up my nose recently. Liam wins, and she says something to the effect that Leon Smith will have lots of choice for the DC team - Andy, James, Kyle, Liam and Aljaz Bedene. For heaven' s sake, it has been all over the press and the internet (including the BBC website!) that Aljaz is not eligible. Then today she described Kukushkin as somebody "nobody has heard of".

Well people who follow tennis have heard of him, Sue, and I would have thought you were paid a generous salary to follow tennis. . .

James looking better now at 5-2 this set.

Just realised that the auto correct made my post a bit weird but you worked it out I'm sure. I agree about Sue and others and the ignorance of the wider game is pretty obvious to us that follow more than 5 or 6 tournaments a season. Andrew Castle annoys me the most. I corrected him on Twitter about a comment he made on the French open that was incorrect and he went on a rant at me asking if I had ever played the game etc was embarrassed for him then he blocked me as he couldn't accept it. He was cringeworthy interviewing Heather today you could see she wasn't interested in his mundane questioning.

The coverage of many courts is a plus but the concentration on being all chummy to each other and Andy and the high head celebs is annoying I really wish they would concentrate on the lower levels when it comes to knowledge.

What difference should it make how much tennis you had played?  He comes across as arrogant.  I can't even remember him being much good.  What rank did he reach?

He's done the same to me last year. He littered one of his  Wimbledon commentaries with errors about the qualifying tournament. Therefore I suggested he should refrain from remarking on it as he'd made a series of inaccurate statements. No aggressive language etc. Instant block.

Well, if he's played way more tennis (which no doubt he has), then that's even less reason to get things wrong.

Castle is extremely arrogant. Doesn't surprise me Jeff that you had the same experience. We pay our TV license to listen to mistakes. Another classic comment today from a commentator was that first round losers get 30odd thousand pounds. It's just lazy really.

Anyway enough moans about pundits I ll be here all day.

Well done James Aljaz Liam and Heather today. All have a chance next round to put themselves on the map.
