RE: Weeks 26 & 27 - Wimbledon - men's main draw (grass)

When you think about it now the draw for Brits bar Jo Konta is giving us a great chance of a record number to through I'm confident of 5 maybe 6 Brits in round 2

Great fight, once he got in to the match you always felt like he was going to win. Get in there!

Well done Broady for finally waking up and realizing this was a match you could win. Hopefully Ward realizes he also has a great chance tomorrow.

Fair play to Liam, didn't see that coming.

I'm sure the prize money and ranking points will come in handy, but the huge confidence boost will be the key.

Superb fight, heart and determination from Liam Broady. I didn't watch the match so I'm relying on others' reports but even if Matosevic was awful, to have the physical and mental fortitude to win in 5 is really impressive. So chuffed for Liam as (along with Wardy) he is one of the British guys who you felt really needed a win and some points soon.
Well done that lad

Had to go out at 2 sets down. Clearly I was cursing him.

Unbelievable turnaround. I'm absolutely speechless. Massive well done to Liam, first five setter and he wins it from two sets down. Absolutely delighted!

When I spoke to Liam earlier this year, he was very confident he would last out 5 sets on his Wimby debut. Well he was right !!!

Great comeback and I don't really think his game is ideally suited to grass anymore, with his forehand having more shape on it now. Great confidence boost for the rest of the season, and I am just so so happy for him.

Matosevic was far from awful, in the first two sets anyway. He was prone to some very odd tactical decisions (particularly some of the serve and volleying) but was generally solid and serving well on the break points. Liam was playing well for the most part, but just seemed to be struggling on return (particularly on the big points) and threw in a couple of loose games in the pivotal parts of the sets.

I can't comment for the rest of the match.

Hopefully this really kickstarts Liam's season.

Top 100?

Showed great courage to come back from 0-2 down in first 5 set match. When he won 3rd set looked like likely winner. Good to see him show some fight. No Liam Bogdanovic yet...

Just watching the match back now.

He's a bit of an all-rounder, isn't he? Good stamina, decent speed, firing winners off both wings, drop shots, aces, the occasional lob. I guess the major issues seem to be mental (looking at his entire 2015) and consistency.

Might just be the surface but looks to me like he might have a bit more beef on his groundstrokes too - I remember him playing the likes of Mannarino last year where he would struggle to hit a single winner.

Thanks TMH, I think sometimes some of us (myself included) tend to forget that over 5 sets a player's level is likely to deviate somewhat in both directions, and in truth just one gritty hold or one (sometimes fortunate) break can be a huge momentum changer

Great result and the type that justify 5 set tennis a true test, well done Liam. Bring on Goffin.
