Usually qualifying for the annual Wimbledon warm-up event involves a 32 draw on Thursday and Friday. This year it is just a 16 draw, with one round of qualifying which takes place tomorrow in Surbiton. Jay Clarke, Alexis Canter, Ewan Moore, Joel Cannell, Jonathan Gray and Ryan Storrie are the top ranked Brits on the acceptance list, and likely to have main draw wildcards (Luke Oakley and Finn Bass are other strong candidates)

Lawrence Perrin confirmed the good form he's been showing on the tour recently, winning 1 & 2 against the 6th seed.

Max lost 4-6 in the third.

Jack also lost but 6-3 7-6(1)

Also through was world no.12 (and ATP top 800) Mikael Ymer courtesy of the other wildcard. I assume he now wants to play Wimbledon as well as Roehampton (didn't enter either) so expect one of the qualifying wildcards (or possibly main draw) at Wimbledon to head his way. Perhaps he had a change of heart because of his brother's success (qualified for the men's singles) this week.

The wildcards are as predicted with the main draw starting tomorrow. Finn Bass gets a crack at JWR1 Taylor Fritz, who won a round at the ATP event in Nottingham

For some reason they have completely redrawn the boys so the match-ups are below. Finn may be relieved to avoid Taylor Fritz, who has taken the first set 6-1 against his Japanese opponent, but Ryan now has the tough prospect of Michael Mmoh

Jay becomes the first Brit to record a win here today - 6-2 6-4 Alexis is on court a set down while Ryan has taken the first set against Mmoh, but the American is in charge in the second

Splendid effort from Ryan but he loses 2-6 6-2 7-6(4) Alexis won the second set on a tiebreak but lost the third 6-2. Finn took the first set 6-3 but down a break in the second. Lawrence is a set down

Two more wins with Finn taking it 6-4 in the decider and Jonathan comfortably accounting for the Finnish qualifier. Lawrence lost in straights but Ewan has taken the first set on a tiebreak

David, they had to re=do the draw because, supposedly, they left someone out. They lad had signed in and everything but just got left out. And so it all needed doing again.

Pretty incompetent really, but it happens...

And, as you say, a real shame for Ryan who went from having a very nice draw to a really tough one - even though he still played exceptionally well (even overheard martin Weston saying so) so kudos to him.

Also, a real shame for the LL kid who thought he'd made the MD and then got told that he hadn't after all .....

Youngster Finn gets the prize for beating the highest ranked one (also a youngster) - a cracking high quality match.

Jay Clarke has an exciting game. Ewan looked as though 100 ranking places difference was totally irrelevant. And Jonnie Gray (our Tim Henman look-alike) swatted away a pretty unimpressive opponent.

And Ryan shook the world number 4 to the core (quote from the American: "who does this guy think he is ? to be doing this to me?")

It would be great to see Ryan succeed given his unconventional development thus far, it must be a real boost for next week to know that no opponent is to be feared and every match an opportunity to win.
