YEah thanks a lot for the insight guys - much appreciated. Will be keeping fingers crossed that this time next year Swan is much more of a presence at this level.
Oakland: Yes. A great match. And all credit to Tamira, really, because she was winning, but the match was tight, really long rallies.
And was then, as you say, 6-1 up in the TB. And lost 7 points in a row. Her poor team were having kittens.
NB Does anyone who knows German nicknames know why they call her 'Mémé' or how you write it? Is that a common German diminutive? (I though it was Mimi at first, but definitely pronounced Mémé - which makes me laugh because that means 'old granny' in french).
But Tamira didn't lose it - didn't even go off for a bathroom break. Just got on with the third set. Was a break down for a lot of it. The Chinese girl was really giving it her all. And she clung on, played some super tennis (fitness was no issue for those girls, really impressive), and eked out the win. Lots of kissing the sky. And one very happy Dad !

There's been a fair amount of bad language warnings given to the players this week at the qualies, all (that I heard) to men, although that might be because I was watching more men's matches than women's (not sure if that's true but it might be).
However, all the incidences I saw were when the men were swearing at themselves (calling themself a F****** moron, or whatever) or swearing at the gods (general expletive shouted at the heavens or about a dead net-cord or whatever)
But yesterday, in Katy's match v Hogenkamp, Richel saw a ball long that was called good, turned to the umpire, took a couple of steps toward her and shouted right at her "are you f***** blind?" (or it might have been "are you f****** kidding/joking?". I can't remember the exact last word but the f* was definitely there (nice and clearly shouted, in excellent Dutch English). And directed very personally at the umpire.
And yet nothing happened ...... what's that all about ???????
To be fair, the umpire immediately said to her, "DO NOT talk to me like that" - I took that as being a very strong verbal warning, with a cv to follow if it happened again
It might have been reported elsewhere but I see that Wimbly have announced that this year the women's draw will be extended to 128, the same as the men.
This, obviously, is completely right.
And also holds out a little hope for another wildcard slot maybe.....or another of our girls who are going to be close to make it in as of right.
Yes CD I meant to comment on that when it was announced the other day, its good to finally see parity with the mens game and also good to see increase in prize money lower down as well. The QWC awards will be interesting, probably Katie Swan, Tara, Maia and Eden youd think, with the other 4 being the play offs.

It's for 2019, not this year.
"From 2019, the Ladies Singles Qualifying Draw will increase in size from 96 to 128, bringing it in-line with the size of the Gentlemens Singles Qualifying Draw."
