Yes, had a BP in the last game.

*3-3

One of my friends, who is there, seems to think that Sugita needs to finish this in three because there is a potential big momentum swing. Dan saved BP in that last game with a backhand smash. Now 5-4*

Looks like he saved at least 1 BP in the last game

5-4*

Hmm, wonder why it's suddenly gone so quiet in here...wink

I'm purposely avoiding that match until later as I've got it recorded!

cry

But he went further this week than I thought he would.

The question now is, does he have the motivation to improve his fitness? It's going to be 12 months before he plays slam qualies again. I do wonder how long he'll stick at it if he's just playing futures.

Shame for Dan. Did well to get this far but just pray he will use it as the motivation to get back up there.

Fitness is the issue and in his case will come with playing matches as he's unlikely to dedicate himself to the training required. I'd have loved to have seen him win a couple more matches and force his way into DC contention, even if only in the minds of the public.

That is now 7 years gone since we had anyone make it through qualifying - even longer for the ladies I think. Though I am conscious of JK recent good/improved form only 2 of our players have actaully made the main draw on merit (AM and HW) - 3 for those that count Bedene but I don't. Not that I have anything against him - I just can't really count him.

Fitness can't be the only reason he lost - not sure if it would even be mentioned if the nationalities were reversed.

Slightly disappointing result but Dan has done more than enough this week to show that he is capable of fighting his way back up the rankings. I hope I am not clutching at straws if I add that this might be for the best. Returning in a blaze of glory at Wimbledon would have been very nice but it would told us nothing about Dan's willingness to knuckle down for the weekly grind of the tour. He has shown that he can still produce high level tennis, we will now have to see if can apply himself week in week out. I would be lying if I said I was optimistic but after this week I have some renewed hope that maybe, just maybe, he will.

He hasn't even entered Frinton 15k though.... I suppose it's par for the course
