Laura loses the first set 0-6 - she did get to deuce in 4 games out of the 6 so not a complete whitewash but hopefully she can win some games in the second set.
Laura bagelled in set1, and apparently having huge problems with her second serve, with 6DFs.
Otherwise, the stats seem to show her competitive on her own serve. They've played 38 points on Laura's serve, for Gav to win 3 games.
To be fair 4 of those double faults were in her first service game which made it look worse. It seemed from the live scoring she got better as the set went on which is understandable after 17 months out
Laura clearly very rusty - with a bit of luck the score could have looked a fair bit closer but Gavrilova dominated the match. Conditions apparently quite windy which is not what she would have wanted first game back.
I still think she should take up the offer of a Wimbledon Wildcard if she gets one because there would be nothing to lose, but then she needs to go down the the ITFs for a while to build up match sharpness.
I am not sure where that leaves Laura regarding a Wimbledon wild card but, it would seem the level of players in the qualies would be much better suited as she works her way back in to things. Thats not going to happen of course.........just sayin'
