Fantastic from both of them. Hopefully this will really boost their confidence for Wimbledon. Was at work all afternoon, so didn't know that Heather had won. Certainly was a nice surprise to get home to.

While I agree with all concerned that yesterday was a glorious day, it's worth noting that the one dissenting voice will be the WTA computer, which takes no account of the quality of the opposition, but just doles out the same points whether you've beaten Serena in straight sets, or she's in bed with a cold, and you got a walkover.

Jo and Hev have only got 55 points each here, so far. Jo is defending 55, Hev is defending 180.

Wins today would get them 100 points. That would take Jo up to around WR130 - and hoping to be seeded for the US Open qualies. Win twice more here, and she would be likely to be in the US Open main draw.

Heather has dropped to WR64; so far she's clawed her way back up to around 58. Win today to move back up to around 52. Make the semis again, and she'd be around WR45 again.

In the doubles, Jossanna need to get to around 1,200 points from 11 counters, to start getting direct acceptance to all the Grand Slams. So their 100 points so far is not quite "under par".

JoKo v Muguruza about to start, with the winner to play Bencic, who beat Bouchard by retirement...

Point taken Wimbeldont, but due to the extra week in the grass court season the points for Eastbourne last year have already been taken off so anything gained here are additional points (subtracting 16th best)

Hi Sim,

That probably makes a nonsense of what I've written above about JoKo, though the bits about Hev and Jossanna should still be about right.

Jo has broken for a 2-0 lead.

Jo serving and moving very well again today. She has the look of someone who expects to win, however Muguruza hits the ball very hard so Jo has to keep the pressure on all the time. She can't afford to ease up on her 2nd serve or it gets hit for a winner, hence the occasional DF.

Muguruza has raised her game and is now playing faultless tennis, winning two love games in a row. 5-4*
