RE: Wimbledon Wildcards Announced

Nik was at college in the states.

Last three singles wildcards not used.

Sigh. At least give them to Paszek, Date-Krumm and even Larcher De Brito ffs

I think it's purely down to cowardice on the part of the LTA regime. Playing and losing is fine. Not competing is inexcusable.

There is for the men, draw already out.

And, yes, two Q spots in the Women's doubles Q draw, according to the Wimbledon page (but no names)

If Wimbledon persists with a "no wildcards for British players" policy it is going to tempt some of our players to change nationality.

Dont tempt them! Several probably could be Irish....Noticed in general section Katy looking for sponsorship

I was thinking more of Australia being happy to accept a few of our middle to good players and then to offer them wildcards into their GS.

To be sure, no grand slams in Ireland. Just noticed on Katys tweet that her brother cycles for Ireland

That said, Nik in particular has yet again got a comparatively rough deal and I certainly do see the stinginess in some areas as against the other Slams.

Okay, that was harsh.

Neither of them will expect to get very far in the singles, though. So like many of the acceptances on the doubles list, they'll enter that as well, even though both of their doubles records are pretty dreadful.

EDIT: Nik Slater's career prize money since 2001, incidentally, is US$0.041M.

So they have updated the wildcards on the Wimbledon website and they have given one to Laura R but then the next 3 to next in question is what happens if Harriet Dart wins tomorrow, you never know with Cibulkova fresh from injury she would miss qualifying which starts Tuesday ??

In future if there are several Wildcards not being used, maybe it would be better to upgrade the wildcard playoffs to include a final where the winner gets a place in the main draw.

It would give players outside the top 250 a chance of making the main draw, and it couldn't be criticised for being undeserved if the player has had to win a competition to get the WC.
