Week 24 - ITF ($50K) - Ilkley, UK Grass

Tara and Katy have their wellies on, and are struggling through the mud...

There is a lack of covers at Ilkley, just for centre and main I believe, so the girls may be indoors today. Phil will advise.

Katy just lost and Tara is on the verge of losing.

Katy lost 6-1, 6-3.

Tara lost 6-3, 6-4.

Disastrous tournament from a British perspective, without a single victory over foreign opposition, in either singles or doubles, main draw or qualifying.

Katy played a vastly improved Foretz, couldn't really find a foothold in the match. Her shoulder was strapped, but Foretz to be fair played a high quality match.

Didn't see most of Tara's match, but what I did see was spectacular, screaming winners and a solid 1st serve. Sadly it was only to get back from 5-2 to 5-4, then Eguchi served it out to 15.

It was played outside.

I wonder what would have happened had Tara won?

'Twas already announced that Tara had not got a QWC when she played here yesterday. Would she have withdrawn from R2 here to play in the Wimbledon QWC Playoff?

EDIT: And the same applies to Jodie, of course.

No they almost certainly would have given her the last QWC

Shame for Freya I like her game high hopes for her next year. Looking at that result suggest she would have maybe won had she been 100per cent fit.

Can see Harriet Freya Anna Brogan and Katie Swan being our top 4 girls in a couple of years.

Hmmm!!  There a lots of very promising players around. Can't tell what's going to happen in next couple of years. Nonetheless, I like Freya's game in particular. As for the future, who knows.
