If this is really her second tournament back, in over 6 months (and she said it was, so I guess it is !), and given she so nearly beat Naomi is her first, this is brilliant !!!

6-1, first set Gabi
It says as much about her opponent as it does about Gabi. If her opponent is not playing woefully, then it is an excellent case for Wimbledon MDWC for Gabi :). Give it to her and Harriet as well. They are actually showing they might do something with it :).

Will be interesting to see re the wildcards. I definitely wouldn't give a MD one to Gabi, nor to Katie S either. Harriet is a good argument (although that's assuming Katy's got one???) - Katie B not in the mix, which makes life easier.
Moore / Slater had an absolute belter of a match against Date-Krumm / Minella, but it goes down as one they really should've won, rather than actually did.
(3) Date-Krumm / Minella (JPN / LUX) d. Moore / Slater (GBR) 4-6 7-5 (MTB: 11-9)
Had a match point at 6-4 5-4*, having already been a break up in the second set. Then led 6-1 in MTB, before being dragged back to 7-6, then led 8-7. Then saved a MP at 8-9*, before losing 9-11.
Major major drama in that MTB and I mean major drama.
Both Nik and Tara played sublime tennis to get 6-1 up in the MTB. They were the better team, they deserved to win and should have won. Then the 1st sign of nerves appeared Nik double faulting, that completely took their momentum away. But they managed to get back on track leading 7-6 when they got a shocking call on the baseline. Nik got mad, and with reason, but umpires DONT change their call, Niks scottish accent being heard into the distance. And sadly Tara served a double on MP. Tara then through her racket about 200 yards in the air and about 50 yards off the court. Not much shaking of the umpires hands at the end.
Tara's serve is still her achilles heal sadly, but her other play was top drawer, whilst Nik was very impressive in all parts of her game. Only criticism would be that she tended to float a few returns towards the end.
I watched all of Jodie's match and most of Gabi's match and given this was two juniors against two player ranked around 100 in the world, you would never have guessed.
Last time I saw Jodie was at the grade 5 junior in Liverpool two year ago and she had a bit serve and a big forehand. Now she has a big serve an erratic forehand and a belter of a backhand.
First set, Jodie struggled with first serve and made quite a few errors on the ground shots and the Chinese girl served well.
The second set was going the same way and Jodie was 5-1 down, but then the Jodie started serving well, cut out the errors and the Chinese girl's first serve went missing. Jodie won 6 on the bounce to take the set and she was outstanding.
The third set Jodie started to dominate and had chances to break in the opening two games, but the seeded player started serving well and Jodie's level dropped a little. It was a long match, the first set was tighter than the scoreline suggested and I think fatigue kicked in.(Mum had to go and get extra fluids at the start of set 3)
If Jodie plays to that level in set 2 and start of set 3 watch out for her at Roehampton and junior Wimbledon. Definitely one to watch.
First time I seen Gabi play before and you can see why she is highly regarded. She is only small and has a low centre of gravity, but has very solid ground strokes and a decent all round game.
Gabi ran away with the first set, totally dominating.
Second and third set was a different story. Gabi's serve struggled and she tried to force her ground strokes as Linette started serving big and hitting huge ground strokes.
I think they both have huge potential, but Jodie was the more impressive and in my opinion has the ability to go further.
Thanks for the detailed account paulisi. I am always curious to know how our players actually play i.e. their game style rather than rely on the scoreboard.
It's really great to hear about Jodie for the first time. All the best to her.
Mind you, it is always easier for juniors to play under such situations. Nothing to lose, can play freely since nobody expects them to win. Such freedom is very significant.
If she can do that against other juniors, then we are talking. Katie S has shown she can.
