RE: Week 24 - ITF ($50K) - Ilkley, UK Grass

None of the matches were played outside but I don't think that would have made a huge difference to the results.

The MD is out.

Jodie Anna Burrage is an unexpected wildcard, along with Tara, Gabi and Katy D.

Katy has drawn Q Steph Foretz-G

Tara has Eguchi.

Gabi has 5th seed, Linette

And Jodie has 7th seed, Wang

Only Tara and Nik in the doubles (via a WC)

Presumably Jodie is in for Amanda who withdrew.

Good point.

And presumably this confirms the expected i.e. that Gabi, Tara and Katy all have WCs for the Wimbly Qs (assume Mandy does too....) and so don't need to play the WC play-offs

I wasn't expecting Gabi to get a Wimbledon Q WC, well as she did last year in the play-offs and in qualifying, but good for her if she has. I was just counting too many initial contendors so it will be intriguing ...

Yes, I know what you mean, Tara and Katy D were given, I'd have said, but Gabi was more of a long-shot, especially given her lack of matches/injuries.

In fact, I was surprised to see her get wildcards to Surbiton AND Ilkley, but I guess this means the LTA are having a word in the shell-like of the organisers. Which would also be in line with her getting a Q WC.....

Not a bad draw for Katy, you don't know what you will get with Stephanie.

Just the youngsters in singles action tomorrow.

Talking to Ken Skupskis, the Wimbledon wildcards are kept well under wraps and none of the players know before the announcement, unless Judy Murray leaks it....

Jodie - looking to outshine Katie Swan ??? - has just won three or four games on the trot and is now 5-5 in the second set (having lost the first 2-6)

Jodie was a set and *1-5 down, but quickly won 4 games in a row to get it back on serve

*5-5 second set

Points total is showing as 61 to Jodie and 63 to her opponent, so she really is on a roll at present

There were some very close games in the middle of that set, with BPs etc, but when Wang came through, it was only normal that she'd have the experience to then see it out.

6-2 in the third to the Chinese player.

Well done, Jodie. great effort.
