And if Nishikori makes the final of Halle he will be 4th seed at Wimbledon. Had Stan won yesterday Nishikori would needed to have won Halle to move ahead of him.
Well, with 'legend' Nadal gone on day 1, and Stan-the-Man-of-the-Moment gone, and now Cutesie-Baby-Fed-Dimitrov dumped out in two sets, it's all down to Andy now (who would have been here even it had stayed a 250). Not a very successful move up really for Queens ......
If he has followed his alleged post Aussie Open title precedure, Stan has merely interrupted his French Open title celebrating to play a bit of tennis.
I watched the match yesterday. He did look rather as though he'd been up to something else. I must say his shorts are actually quite fetching and looked good against his white shirt. They should let him wear them at Wimbledon. After all, he is the French Champion.
Stan's form this year has been hilarious. He has played half a dozen matches where he has looked completely uninterested and barely capable of putting more than 2 balls in a row in court and then he goes and wins the French Open. It seems that he only bothers to invest any real mental energy into big matches and on the rest he just turns up and if goes well it goes well but if not he isn't too worried about it.
Best run ATP 250 tournament - so, for last year not this year!
The tournament has been run woefully this year as whoever has done the scheduling is a blithering idiot. On the first 3 days they failed to complete all the scheduled matches despite no rain interruptions and today was monumentally stupid. Isner and Lopez were playing one another in singles and of the the 8 singles players in action they were the only ones also playing in doubles. Stevie Wonder could see that they should have played their singles match reasonably early on but the imbecile in charge of scheduling decided that they should play the third singles match. Entirely predictably it didn't finish until around 6:30PM leaving both of them with very little rest before playing doubles with both of them going down to defeat. I don't like either of them as players but their treatment today was extremely shabby.
The first Saturday it was drizzling, and there was nothing on the website saying that the public would not be let in if it were raining. In fact, quite the opposite - it said 'open to the public'. The stewards at the gates had no idea what they were supposed to do. But no, all the public who arrived were made to wait in the road, not even allowed in the grounds, as (god forbid) we may have stampeded the inside playing courts. Zillions of officials but no one knew what was happening - a real mess ......
