Wouldn't it be great if that serve was much more ingrained. That and some of her other issues so much better coached at an earlier age and she could / should have been a top 100 player.
The cameos like today are great, and well done Naomi, but ...
Pretty impressive win for JoKo 6-1 6-3 in under an hour.
Katie Swan has a tough assignment against a player who is probably more accustomed to a grass court than she is (let alone it being her first ever WTA match...) so a 2-6 scoreline is perfectly respectable
Katie is clearly a genuine talent but looks a little short of weapons at this level right now. First serve super when it goes in. Movement is excellent. Ground-strokes on both wings had their moments but overall rather erratic, backhand was error prone. Not surprisingly, she struggled to deal with the pace of Pironkova's first serve.
Perhaps could have won a couple more games if she'd cut out the horror errors. Pironkova far too good for Katie to have had any chance of making it a competitive contest.
