Might this be because she's still not taking her prize money (so as not to jeopardies college) and so the LTA can economise on £27k or whatever it is?
Have to agree with CD - on the back of her 10k win she should be 400-500. If she'd gone on to win a 15k or 25k then maybe. Perhaps the LTA need more furniture!
Bellis was WR1208, with 4 ranking points, with a W/L record of 2/4 at $10-25k when she got a MD WC for the US Open.
The LTA do need to offer KS something other than the "tough luck" stick; otherwise she, her parents, her corporate sponsors (Wilson, inter alia) will simply decide to decamp to the USTA carrot patch.
As the LTA are very short of carrots between now and June 2016, as they are running essentially no, zero, zip, nada, etc... women's tennis tournaments between now and then.
Wimbledon MD women 2015 is probably an inappropriate level of competition for Katie, imho. But where can she possibly play, between now and Xmas, at an appropriate level? Say 25k-50k level - to get her eye in... Woking 25k w/c 24 August?
Yeah, Mr Downey, that's tough. She'd be a lot better advised to take the green card, eh?
In ranking terms WR 47 is not bad in this tournament. Though on form ( or even I recall seemingly off form ) Pironkova can be even handier on grass than that WR suggests.
Interesting to have read that Katie apparently turned down a WC offer for Surbiton.
It does mean that the Wimbledon WCs may be announced and probably decided before she has ever played a senior grass court match or any competitive grass court match this year.
Just a note to show the support amongst a lot of the British players. I was sitting watching Wardy play his QR1 match indoors with Beechy, Marcus, Milts, and Ricey and there were 2 or 3 of us checking the live scores on our phones to check how Em was doing deep in the 3rd.
Naomi having big trouble having any impact on Doi's serve. Misaki actually has a pretty similar game to Cavaday (except her forehand is less curly), so I suspect that might not be suiting her so far.
Encouragingly close scoreline but Harriet loses 6-7(2) 5-7. Barely saw a Flipkens 2nd serve in the 2nd set. Harriet saved 2 bps only to be broken to 40.
Looks from a distance, to be Harriet's best performance of 2015 by a mile. Flipkens a former Wimbledon semi-finalist and twice made the 3rd round.
