Naomi holding her own from the back of the court in the early exchanges too. Whatever happens in this match she's looking like she could cause problems for just about anyone on this surface.

Shame, Naomi couldn't quite hold onto her serve at *4-4 (one or two loose shots), then gets jammed with a second serve into the body on break point at 4-5*.

I suspect Halep will pull away now, but a great standard of tennis from Naomi in that set.

4-6 *0-0

Decent effort by Naomi today but disappointing result for Heather which raises questions about if she has recovered from her injury.

How come so many empty seats during both matches?

Birmingham is a biggish venue on centre and not particularly well attended historically for the first few days

I'm there on Saturday for the semi-finals (weather not withstanding) so hopefully the attendance should improve as Saturday is a non-work day for most. Mind you the cost of the tickets have gone up a bit since last year ie for the same semi-final Saturday.

I hope Jo can keep her momentum going when they get back on court.
