Well, she can since they are officially different week tournaments.
It's not that unusual at all to play other tournaments at the start of the week of Slam qualifying, though possibly more usually in qualifying rather than a MD WC.
When does Wimbledon qualifying begin for the women ? Wednesday ?
It's a bit like saying to the AELTC thanks for the WC, but actually fancy my chances down in Eastbourne, so I might not need it after all, not sure it's correct etiquette to except 2 gifts for potentially the same week.

I'm with you.
And I don't understand (am I being slow?) : what happens if she wins in Eatbourne on Monday (say because her opponent retires) and then gets hammered on Tuesday ? (I'm taking the extreme scenario but it could well happen in 'regular' style matches too). Does she then get a MD Wimbledon WC ? Seems ridiculous. Or has she now blown her chances of playing Wimbly qualis and Wimbledon altogether?
There have been previous cases of players being stuck at Eastbourne and having to give up their Wimbledon QWC. Amanda Janes comes to mind, though she qualified for Eastbourne rather than being given a wildcard. Amanda wasn't upgraded to a Wimby MDWC and I don't expect Harriet will be - that's just the risk she has to take in accepting a wild card for Eastbourne, when there are no Brits guaranteed Wimbledon main draw entry to give it to. What would be frustrating for her is if the weather doesn't allow her R1 match to be completed before Wimbledon Q sign-in on Monday afternoon
I think the same thing happened to James Ward in 2010. He Beat Lopez and Schuettler to reach the quarters of Eastbourne and so was unable to use his Wimbledon qWC.
