Naomi completes the set, holding from 0-40 in that game. You're killing me Em.

6-5* Cav

Em has her toughest service game so far, but takes her third game point with an ace.

Tiebreak and i feel nauseous.

Whatever the result its a real shame this court isnt streamed. LTA could easily have provided the service as cameras are there.

Laura goes down 61 63, after saving break points she had a game point for 4-4*, but couldn't take it.

Naomi through 64 26 63. Tougher than expected, especially given that Gabi hasn't played a competitive match this year.

Looks a great effort by Gabi.

Having not played competitively in more than 6 months, I was beginning to think that she could be going top 700 and GB no 14 on 28 points from only two counters, Wimbledon qualifying last year and this 50K week at Surbiton !

Well, the 4 all Brit ties in R1 combined with Harriet's excellent win give us 5 in R2 of a 50K. Considering we went months earlier in the year without any GB woman winning a MD match above 25K level, it's great to see 5 of our top 10 in R2 here, with 8 points at least and at least one more match on grass against good opponents.

I know many folk don't like all Brit matches, and I personally could have done without Em vs Cav ( interesting as it was to see what happened ). But the general avoidance of seeds in R1 by our higher ranked players and meeting other Brits have certainly helped give us more Brits in R2 than I think we could have reasonably expected before the initial draw. In that regard it was to me a good draw.

Tough ones now, ladies. Go for it !
