Well there you go, again just 2 Brits on the card, and they clash again !
First up was Joss and Anna moved from centre.
Nip and tuck 1st set, one scare for us holding from 0-30, no chances on their's until the 10th game when Hradecka cracked under pressure and served a shocking double to give us the 1st set. 2nd set we got on top, but missed 3bps, and couldn't get the early break. Then probably the only poor game on our part, Joss missed 2 volleys (1 a sitter, the other a difficult one ) and they broke. But that only galvanised us. We were now dominant and cheered on by a raucous crowd we not only broke back but broke again to take the match. The other pair were I would guess down about 10% on what they're capable of, and also they're were a couple of key calls which went our way at key moments, but overall a stellar performance, Anna's serve very strong.
Then I dashed to centre, Jo was already 5-2 down. She managed to get the break back but was promptly broken to love to lose the 1st set. Jo was playing Ok by that stage but Puig marginally had the upper hand. 2nd set I sort of feel, Puig took the foot off the gas marginally and Jo upped her game, getting up a double break. Again it may seem a bit strange to say this, but Jo's game has become a lot more consistent, very few shanks in her armoury now. Jo then had to withstand a determined fightback by Puig, but just held it off, to take the 2nd. Jo was angling to get the game called off at the start of the 2nd but will be very happy it wasn't. But it was inevitable that play would be suspended at the end of the 2nd.
Solid looking last few games there impressive stuff. Last rally on match point the longest of the match. No reason why she can't take Niculescu next another up and down player.
