RE: Week 23 - WTA International ($227K) Nottingham, UK Grass

Joss and Anna have a tough draw in the 1st round, and will play a WC pair (Schivone/Hradecka) who deprived, Jo and Sanchez a chance of playing them in the 1st round.

Watched a bit of Katy Dunne practicing with Jovanovski, and she was smoking the ball, so positive signs.

Jo and Sanchez? Maria is in Holland, having just qualified for yhe main draw so wouldn't have been down for doubles here.

Or have I misunderstood?

I was quoting Joss, who I had a brief chat with. And Jo told me that because the WC pair were top 20, they got special treatment ?

Maybe but it would have been impossible for Sanchez to play doubles in Notts anyway.

Also Maria has signed in for Wimbledon with Falconi on the initial entry list. Who shes also playing with in Holland (and thay draw came out before the Notts one). Crossed wires somewhere I think.

I don't understand. Aren't there normally 2 doubles wildcards at a WTA? Joss and Anna would appear to have got in on ranking. So why don't either JoKo or Katy get a wildcard?

Was going to pop up to Notts tomorrow but don't think I can be bothered with so few Brits in action, probably cancel my day off from work and stick to just Edgbaston or Ilkley next week cry

Hmm... Kudryatseva or Vickery would have been better, but a good test to see where she is at.

Rybarikova is a good grass court player, Govortsova is a player on the up - so both are tough tasks.

Joko's match now postponed until tomorrow, due to 'Dew on the court and danger to the players'. Not surprised, it is dreary and gloomy and damp here in the midlands right now. (7.55pm)

(Sorry for Philwrig though who must have been hanging round for ages to see her match.)

Well that was a pretty grim end to the day. After Riske managed to drag her match out for 20 minutes longer than necessary. Jo and Rybarikova came into court to cheers from a sparse crowd. They never looked particularly happy, and 5 minutes later play was cancelled due to dew on the court. Well that was in the politest terms B******T. I checked the grass personally before Riske resumed her match and it was a bit slick, but by the time play was called off for the day, the grass had completely dried out and was bone dry. Basically neither player wanted to start.

And thanks Julia and Paul for your sympathy it is appreciated.

Ok so there are only 2 Brits in the draw, and they are now going to clash tomorrow. Both 3rd on, typical.

Phil, you're having a mare :(

What's the forecast?

Hopefully the matches before will be different lengths ???

I guess it doesn't help but I asked a couple of random Surbiton club people what they thought and both said they thought programming two events on the same week was just plain daft.
