The Lta haven't put these events on for the Brits alone though . The WTA needed more events for the extended grass court swing and the UK is the best candidate for those due to the lack of suitable venues elsewhere in Europe.
Otherwise there is limited opportunity for players to get match time which historically was always a complaint, particularly for those who will be in qualifying.
I don't have a problem with the two events per week. They are really targeting different players (Tour and ITF), and clearly most of the Brits prefer their chances at the lower level. Weve had dual events during tje week of Birmingham for a few years as well.
Theres going to be a grass event in Spain next year as well the week of Birmingham, which is looking crazy strong this year (amd ilkley is stacked too)
Are the LTA being paid by the WTA to put on the event? Or do they get some other indirect benefit from the WTA? Which would certainly change the argument.
i.e. it's not the LTA's responsibility to help the WTA out by providing a tournament for them.
And it's not like Wimbledon suffers from a lack of entrants (because people don't have enough practice events, or any other reason).
I realise it's a big world, and everyone has to cooperate, but if funds are seemingly so tight, why host an expensive tournament for other countries' players?
And there are 17 corporate sponsors with their logos up on the LTA website for this tournament. I presume they have to pay US$250,000 to Aggie Rad for gracing us with her presence, but even so, I find it hard to believe they aren't making a profit.

Which they will be regretting when Aga continues her form of the last several months and exits the tournament at the first opportunity. But anyway, i think it's good that they are putting on tournaments, the more high level tennis tournaments in the UK, the better imo. It feels unrelated to the topic of player funding cuts. Because they have the money to still fund the players if they wanted to. But i'm guilty of derailing the thread here so i'll stop there.
Well one of them is a marketable event that will get the attention of the general public. And the other has a practical use for our player who are more of that level. I agree you'd want them split if possible for the sake of our players. I don't know what the schedule looks like and what led them to overlap.
Seems to me to be all about being seen to put on super duper grass court season.
Derailing the thread for a bit again ( sorry ) I fully agree with skibbarriz that it's not an either or against playerr funding and bonus pools.
The amounts involved in making / restoring comparatively ( for the players ) much better benefit are relative chickenfeed. All evidence points to these cuts not being financially driven.
There was some good quality on show today, I felt Donna played some solid tennis, but her opponent took a while to get going. Donna was getting a bit rattled at the end, and there were a few Croatian expletives being vocalised, but a nice win after a great run at the French.
Pliskova didn't prevail though, despite her opponent trying her best to choke the match away when serving it out. I counted at least 10mps in that game and probably as many as 15-20 deuces.
