RE: Week 22 - Challenger (€42,500) - Manchester, GB (Grass)

That's a nice touch. I like that. Tournaments needs to market themselves well to build a long term franchise with both players and public. Let's hope the locals, Brydan and Co, do well with this edition.

Made it to Lviv.

Thoughts:

A disappointing Qualifying in the end. I was certain Evo would make it to play Bambo and we'd have at least one Brit through from the quals. Joe Salisbury did well, good lad - I see promise in his future, hopefully even as soon as this grass season. Plenty of British Futures to prove himself at on the grass.

Hoping our WCs, Liam and James can make some sort of impact on the main draw.

Quick question: did any of our lads get points for their Quali exploits?

No - you get nothing unless you qualify at challenger level and if you are in the main draw direct, you get nothing for losing in the first round.

I'm guessing they are waiting for the courts to dry out as it's not raining at present.

I assume they are back outside as I see blue skies out of the window. Brydan running away with the first set as expected.

Dan making a lot of errors. Brydan didn't seem to have to be doing much.

(Mind you, trying to watch it while watching Jo-Wil and the Swiss match-up, all at the same time.... so might have got it wrong....multi-tasking here we come.....)

Not going so well in the doubles so far for Scott and Rich or Ken and Neal

I doubt I am alone in thinking that Ken and Neal need a doubles win far more than James does.

For the record, Brydan won the first set 6-2 against Dan C. On serve in the second at 2-2.

I thought brydan capitulated pretty much towards the end of that set (he took a couple of dramatic tumbles but they seemed more drama than injury).

Dan hung in there, as he does, and as he has to.

so tight for Rich and Scott . . .
