Lucky escape there not playing anywhere near top 100 at the moment but with recent form it's something to build on and keeps the nickname at bay too. Well done
yes, and it was the nature of the break points that was disappointing - he prods his forehand, tries to push it - it's really like someone who simply doesn't play enough at this level - so resorts to 10k style play when in a pressure situation. Coz his game in general is really good . . .
I saw the last set of Wardy's match and Marcus' match.
James served very well and was the better player in the set. He was a little tentative on the break points and the tie breaker was very nervy for both players. Both very similar in style and both slightly passive on the big points, but the better player won.
As for the Marcus match, Willis started well had some good chances in the first set to break back with the Cypriot struggling with his serve. Second set the class showed. Willis' first serve stuttered a bit and Baggo took advantage. Marcus should learn a lot from that match as to where he needs to be. I also agree that some of the tactics he uses for 10k matches aren't as effective for playing the top players. The better players will punish a chop or slice that is slightly loose. I'd love to see Marcus slightly more aggressive more often with his ground shots.
