Looks like Naomi and Katy have easily made the main draw without wildcards. Looks like Cav and Fran have benefited.

9 or 10 late/automatic withdrawals.

Pliskova and Hsieh are still involved in RG doubles so will be withdrawn, which means Naomi got in direct and I assume Cav got the wildcard.

I'm not sure about Fran. She was beaten easily in Egypt against an opponent she was expected to beat, so maybe an injury...

Remind me - do you get a point for winning qualifying round 1 in 50k?

Edit - it's 1/3/5 so I'd expect Jasmine to beat Annika and get a third counter and lots of other girls will pick up counters.

Pliskova isnt, the sisters lost this morning . All those still in RG were automatically pulled out at the qualifying sign in deadline, such as Kania, the Rodionova sisters, Date-Krumm and Hlavackova.

I count 14 ranking points that will be split between the UK women, even if every single one loses every single match against a foreign opponent.

Absentee Freya Christie withdrew from Surbiton and Ilkley today; so I guess she must be crocked.

So apart from Askew and Drew, no others of our 21 currently ranked players outside the GB top 10 are there.

As said Fran, or one of the others, may appear as a MD WC.

Obviously a worrying number are long or short term injured or we just don't know, while such as Izzy and Anna B have other plans.

If you were a player - why would you go there. <200 MD cut off. Why get bashed for no result when there are much easier points to be had. Whilst it may be disappointing -  at least the girls are using their heads.

A problem is though that it doesn't seem a particular choice with many to miss this event. Most have lately been missing all ITF events !!

Players are missing for a variety of reasons. Injuries will happen - but we have an inordinate number at the moment - incuding some who might have stood a chance of progressing. Others are no doubt missing for personal/academic reasons. I don't know what the injury rates are for other countries - might make a useful study. From what I can see nearly all who can play are here.

I thought players were using their heads by not being here ??

The truth does indeed appear to be that most can't be here. If they could, while point taken about potential drubbing, this year's calendar has offered fewer than usual home events and required more travelling to compete so logically surely some would have been chomping at the bit.

There are many more injuries than usual ( and it had already seemed not great for some time ). Anna B and Izzy are abroad at 10Ks in coming weeks and some we simply don't know about, but some of these are maybe injured too.

What has Fran done to deserve a WC for me Tara should have got the WC

I expected Jodie Burrage to enter, having played British tour last week, but she may have exams.

To be honest, if you want to 'buy' points for your players, you can see the LTA's tactics.

This is really easy points for a load of players who would have real trouble getting 1 point by winning the MD first round of a 10k, let alone making the quarters.
