As has been said, there will be rather many challengers next week in more than one sense, all with their offs already accounted for. But as it stands Kyle is WR 121, has passed 21 guys and been passed by nobody.
But it feels more just fun with Kyle rather than the top 100 angst with someone else.
Go James, knock Kyle out of his possible top 100 spot !
Talking of James and top 100 angst I had a lovely private message from someone who doesn't post calling me offensive for my little joke/comparison.
I look forward and hope James breaks it this week otherwise the poor wee offended person might have more to complain about.
In all seriousness though it's only a number and in reality means nothing except for direct entry to slams. There are plenty of players who can reach top 90 who are essentially not any better than some of the guys in the 150-200 range.
A big problem appears to be that it appears that it has become much more than a number to James himself.
So folk can try to be as logical as they like, but his thoughts about it all are the only ones likely to have any effect on him.
Who knows how much effect, but he found real consistency in the second half of last season, a previous clear issue for him, and that brought him to the brink of the top 100.
His relatively few points to defend in the first half of 2015 suggested that he would / should have by now been top 100. But he has become very inconsistent again, possibly as much as ever.
So I do think it would be best all round if he just did it. Don't think about it !!
I don't know if it is the top 100 thing James ranking has fluctuated a few times. He has broke into the top 200 and back out a few times prior to making the 150 mark. I honestly just think it's his game and therefore probably isn't a top 80 or 90 player Im afraid. I think you have to be pragmatic an say if a player breaks the 100 then they should be able to get to around 50 see Bally and Anne for examples. But I don't see James ever doing that no matter how well he plays.
