has kyle edmund done enough to be top 100 after french open?

Just though I would start this thread as it is touch and go whether kyle will be top 100 after the french on his current points won so:-

Currently kyle is 98th with 511 points.

who can still catch?

Mahut would need to beat Gulbis in french round 2

Kusnetsov and Melzer play each other so one will overtake Kyle

Carlos Berlocq would have to beat Gasquet in french round 2

Guido Pella if he makes vicenza final

Facundo Bagnis if he wins vicenza challenger

Nicholas Almagro if he makes french QF

Radek Stepanek if he makes french QF

Andrea Arnaboldi if he makes french qf

So best case scenario is 99th

So worst case scenario is 106th

EDIT - of course he might do it the easy way and beat Kyrgios :)

Plus players can score relevant challenger points next week before the post French Open ranking points tables come out, eg. James Ward.

My gut feeling is that he will miss out by 1 or 2 places (unless he beats Kyrgios of course). But with only 8 points to defend in the lead up to Wimbledon, it is only a matter of time. However, he has a lot of points to defend in July (75 in total) and if he is included in the DC squad but doesn't play, he will not have the opportunity to defend those points.

Strangely, I haven't seen his name on any of the challenger lists over the next couple of weeks so it will be interesting to see what his schedule will be on the grass.

BiS who knows a couple of DC wins would cover it!

There is almost no way that 511 points will be enough. There are 5 challenger events next week and most players ranked 100-120 will be playing in one of them. It would take an extraordinary string of results to prevent 2 or 3 players overtaking him.

I wasn't surprised that Kyle wasn't down for the first grass challenger week even before he qualified and reached R2 at the French Open. Now looks even better to take that week off.

And can't say I'm that fussed if he misses week 2. I assume that he will appear with a WC at Queen's in grass week 3.

Kyle will be top 100 soon enough so much less drama than with James ( or with what James is making it ). Ironically even before his R1 challenger result, it looked more sensible for James, even regarding top 100, to have at least taken this week off.

At first I thought I was odd that Kyle didn't enter Surbiton (I had never expected him to enter Manchester) but on reflection I think Queen's, Nottingham and Wimbledon is quite sufficient for him because as we have discussed before Kyle seems like the type who needs to manage his schedule well and have frequent rest periods. Had he failed to qualify at RG he might have had a change of heart and requested a wild card for one of the grass court challengers but having done well here I think that becomes unlikely.

Yep I can see him being a strictly 18 tournaments a season guy when he's established not a 31-2 points chaser

While Kyle is unfortunately out with his stomach issue so retired hurt on 511 ranking points, he still clings on just to a top 100 spot.

Mahut's progress now makes his best case scenario WR 100.

While I agree with RJA that there is almost no way that will hold, and now more so with absolutely no wriggle room, it would be incredibly ironic if somehow it did, and with 511 ranking points being a total that James has been above.

Kuznetsov beat Melzer, so it is Kuznetsov of those two who is above Kyle, but it was already factored in that one of these two would be.

Three remaining top 100 threats this week, the remaining French Open one if Berlocq beats Gasquet. It is currently one set all.

Meantime Pella and Bagnis are both through to the Vicenza Challenger QFs.

Almagro, Stepanek and Arnaboldi ( distant threats anyway ) are all out.

Kyle's top 100 spot survives into at least tomorrow.

Berlocq vs Gasquet was suspended when Berlocq levelled matters at 2 sets all.

Gasquet won, so that is one fewer.

Pella and Bagnis have both lost.
