RE: Week 21 - Roland Garros

Troopers indeed !

Their ranking moves didn't time at all well with RG entry list time and they would presumably have relatively sailed in on their current ranking and Pinky could have had some tennis to cheer.

Does make you wonder whether more could be done for those at the top of the alternate list for GS. Couldn't they been paid a small amount and provided with accommodation in return to agreeing to be hitting partners if they don't get in. I would have thought some doubles teams especially new ones would want some practice and more chance of that at a GS with not playing singles every day.

Fingers crossed they get DA for US Open - would be sad if the only one they make is Wimbledon when they will get a WC anyway.

Anyway Jeff, hope you and Jaggy are enjoying your time at RG. You guys had a chance to meet up ?

Have we anyone else there ?

Yes I've had a brilliant week thanks and seen some wonderful tennis. Still unchanged in my opinion that Roland Garros is comfortably behind the other three Slams in terms of spectator experience.

re: Heather winning a Slam comment, I meant making a deep run in a Slam and badly misphrased it in haste.

Haha just read the Jaggy Bogdanovic I sound like an adult film star. I ll post a fill update on my experience when I get back to the UK tomorrow. Had a great time but agree with Jeff Stelling ranks as the poorer relation for slams.

So, in the last 16, there are:

2 Americans
2 Italians
2 Czechs
2 Russians
1 German
1 Belgian
1 Spaniard
1 Swiss
1 Romanian
1 Serbian
1 Ukranian
1 French

Pretty broad spread . . .

Age ranges from 20 to 33

Only two above 30.

5 below age 25

Average age = 25.7 years old

4 completely unseeded players; only 7 of the last 16 are seeded in the top 16.

Mitu v Van Uytvanck for a place in the QF.

Jeezo. But credit to both for capitalising on collapsed draws.

It seems like its not enough for Serena just to win a match - instead she has to do so in a way that draws as much attention to herself as possible. As soon as I heard reports before the match I knew exactly how it was going to play out - and Serena didn't disappoint. She will now get all the plaudits about an 'incredible comeback' and 'amazing fight' etc. but if she was really as ill as she was making out there is no way she would be suddenly able to play better after a set and a half (Heather didn't make half as much fuss in the Australian Open and she really wasn't well enough to compete).

Lucie Safarova is one of the nicest players on the tour and I would be supporting her against most players in the final. I would love it if she won on Saturday but unfortunately can't see it happening.

Rant over!

I'm a huge Serena fan but I agree, Tony - way over the top is terms of amateur dramatics - not really fair to the other player, or necessary - and why wasn't the time violation rule applied? If you're sick, stop. If not, respect the rules.

Tara Moore is also livid (but I think she likes to be antsy).

What?
Does not compute....
The results are telling me that Jordanne & Yui... "lost"... in the doubles final?
But, as we all know, they never lose, so it must be an error... surely...

Couldn't agree more - I actually publically backed Tara on Twitter about this because I feel so strongly about it. It was no coincidence that it was 100% intensity during the points... as a player myself it's impossible to concentrate when someone is remonstrating like that on the other side of the net. Why not win or lose with dignity. She didn't do a PC either but released a statement. Just bloody go in there and do one for two minutes, it's #pathetic

 Rant over
