RE: Week 20 - Roland Garros women's qualifying

Yes, my mistake, steven. Next plays Anastasia Rodionova.

Has Naomi's unbeaten streak on clay, stretching back to September 2012, outlasted any sequence posted by Nadal at his peak?

Both the seeds in her section have fallen. Kucova ousted by Hlavackova, who next plays Brianti, who came through very easily.

Great news and great read though I had seen the result after I came back having left Naomi at *3-4 in her rainbreak. So managed to miss live the late breaking and broken back stuff.

5/6. Wey hey !!

Courtside thoughts on todays matches

Thought Jo seemed to be playing quite well but it was one of those matches where it never looked in doubt who would win right from the off so its hard to judge how well she was playing.

The most interesting thing about the match was that on the very first point Jaksic hit a winner that was called out, umpire came down decided it was in and they should replay the point, Jaksic said but it was a winner, then the umpire asked Jo whether she would have got it and all three of them had a conference at the net about it. They replayed it in the end.

Also the first set lasted 28 minutes after which Jaksic had a 7 minute toilet break. Ridiculous.

Thought Naomi was superb, a shame they don't have proper stats on the website to see how many winners she hit, it must have been 30 odd at least, forehands , backhands, dropshots, volleys she was just hitting winners from everywhere. I agree with what was said above the 3-1 game where she saved 4 break points was huge and really kept the momentum with her early on.

When Naomi got broken back in the 2nd and then CB did a big serve to save break point before the rain delay I thought it was slipping away from Naomi and expected her to get broken at the restart but she held on from 15-30, then had 3 breakpoints all saved by excellent play by CB in the next game.

When she did break and served for the match she actually served very well getting 2 aces and forcing a couple of short returns but missed two forehands into the net off them to put herself in trouble. She double faulted on the second break point after being put off her ball toss by some kids making a lot of noise in the back of the stand on the court next door. She seemed to let this get to her and I thought this would hurt her her in the tiebreak, instead she won a very long rally on the first point and then served back to back aces to get a three nil lead. She closed it out with another winner, considering the, I think only other time she played here she won 1 game it was a pretty good improvement and a thoroughly deserved win.

Every game has been competitive so far, but alas Jo isn't on the board yet 0-3.
