YAAAASSSS!!!!

On clay, after the 10 months she's had, that is a huge win! 6-1 7-6(4)

Next plays Rodionova, who surprisingly beat Glushko. Naomi has won two previous encounters.

Pretty good for her first match on clay for 2 1/2 years.

That was a lot more stressful than it needed to be. Any win on clay is a good win for Naomi as her results suggest she's basically a 10K level player on the surface.

Ah well, she was having to play through a certain jinx wink

Yes I do appreciate my part in her 2nd set difficulties though not quite sure what I did to cause her to lose serve when serving for the match.

Ok that went well, didn't it !!

I was probably expecting Jo to win, but to do it in style confirms what I've been thinking for a few weeks, that its looking like Jo is back near her best, great news.

And then Naomi, well I was expecting the worst, given no preparation on the dirt. Maybe that should be the stategy in the future, sticking with no prep, and the next round is very winnable, toughie for Jo next.

She has played "Rodionova" twice, but each sister only once, I think - she edged this one (Anastasia) 6-7(6) 6-4 7-6(5) in Barnstaple in 2011.

An excellent and (for me, at least) fairly unexpected win from Naomi though

Agreed (in reply to Kundalini); off the hook by then :)

I see the other seed in Naomi's section also fell today; need to see off our old friend Boo Rodionova next please :)
