Just looking at Manchester challenger on LTA site, looks like they are charging £7.50 per day, no onsite parking and no tickets available for weekend. May well put people off.
The prices vary from day to day but they seem to have increased from when I looked earlier in the week. I don't have any objection to paying for a day of quality sporting entertainment but it looks from the website that you have to book your tickets before hand and can't pay on the day which is a major nuisance. The lack of parking is also a big problem (I have been able to park on their car park for the last two years at the futures tournament) as from my vague recollection there is a lack of other obvious parking spots nearby. I assume that you won't get away with parking all day at West Didsbury railway station.
Surbiton and Ilkley are also charging with the former being quite a bit more and the latter a similar level to Manchester. As I said I don't have a principle objection to paying but this seems like a retrograde step given how popular the Nottingham challengers were (free access and plenty of car parking space). The money generated from ticket sales is not going to be significant so you wonder why the LTA have made this change.
Why can't you pay on the day ? Any capacity issue ?
If there's no REAL practical issue then that does seem silly and clearly they will lose spectators, and you just never know who might have been inspired.
Of course, as said, paying at all will be an issue for some. I'm unsure re that one.

It is possible that I am wrong but the website makes no mention of the possibility of paying on the day where as for Surbiton and Ilkley it makes clear that you can (although Surbiton charges extra for doing so).
Looks as if Mr Corrie might even squeak in as a DA - now 1st alt (without the WC).
Looking at the acceptance lists for this week's futures, I see that four (Lebanon, Mozambique, Turkey and Uzbekhistan) dip into the unranked to fill their Main Draw. Is such a high number of tournaments running out of ranked players unusual? Or does it happen often?

It's fairly common for tournaments in more obscure locations. It isn't unheard of for a tournament to even fall short of having 32 players.
