General election/politics

Never in doubt, in my mind. In the family and friends sweepstakes, I'd gone for 60%, so was even more optimistic. But everyone else was down at 50-52-ish so they're feeling very happy, as lots of 'heated discussions', and a lot who've been very worried.

Neil Parish has had his whip removed from the Tories after being the MP accused of allegedly watching Porn in the Chamber

His wiki page has been updated immediately and reads - that is quick and probably not really acceptable! But a little funny. Suspect it will be amended quickly!

Neil Quentin Gordon Palmist[2] (born 26 May 1956) is a British Independent politician, who formerly belonged to the Conservative Party, and a farmer. As a dirty pervert he watched pornography in the House of Commons. He was accused by multiple female MPs of watching porn in the House of Commons chamber. He is the Member of Parliament (MP) for Tiverton and Honiton and was elected at the 2010 general election. He served as the Member of the European Parliament (MEP) for South West England from 1999 to 2009. On 29th April 2022 he had the Conservative whip removed while being investigated for allegedly watching pornography in the House of Common.

I get the feeling he could get the 'recall' in his constituency (is that what they call it when 10% sign to have him removed). There will likely be another by-election. And so their should be.

Why would he do that....in the HoC for crying out loud? Why did the idea even pop into his head? Are these people a different species?

Just does your head in, doesn't it? no

It obviously can't be the first time (that would be too much of a coincidence).

His claim that it was 'by mistake' is yet another example of the sheer chutzpah of our new calibre of politician.

Shame on Nadine Dorries - tweeting a photo of Kier Starmer eating a curry with 30 others in 2021 and breaking the lockdown law apparently - only the photo was kier with Frank Dobson taken in 2019 - and Dobson has since passed away.

Dorries should be ashamed of herself. She should resign.

The photo was from the Daily Mail who are in all out attack mode on Starmer for something the police already looked at and decided that now lock down rule were broken.  It is the only defense they have for Johnson's breaches of the rules. Deflect and defame.

Interestingly when Dorries found out she had tweeted that photo, she refused to apologise or take it down and said it was the content of the article that was important.

Some Tory MPs are now pressuring the Durham police to reopen the case, even though it has already been investigated.  Sort of ridicules their own argument that Partygate is water under a bridge and the country should focus on other issues.

The whole world of the tabloid press and politics is just so toxic right now.

Going to be interesting watching Johnson try to wriggle his way out of this one.

And the Met Police have got questions to answer as well, given that he wasn't fined for this.

Fair point re why not fined here ( while accepting that I am sure that the police don't set out to fine anything like every technical breach but have some thresholds ).

The main thing for me, however many fines he has had, he and No 10 in general have clearly paid very little attention to trying to observe both the letter and the spirit of the law, when so much of the nation was prepared to suffer, as he said they must for the greater good.

Undoubtably he should have long ago resigned !!!

And if he can't / won't do the right thing, replaced by a party, currently overall clearly without a moral compass!

Hammer him, Sue Gray!

It is now being made clear that some people were fined for attending the very same event. The latest defense that seems to be coming out of Nš10 is that 'he was only there for 10 mins'. They really are grasping at straws trying to defend him.

It took place in Nš10. He is responsible for what happens there. So if he was only there for 10 seconds, he should be breaking the party up and telling them to disperse.

In December, he was asked a specific question in the HoC about whether there was an event on that date or not. He replied: No. But but Im sure whatever happened the guidance... and the rules were followed at all times. THAT IS CLEARLY A BLATANT LIE AT THE DISPATCH BOX.

Two days later he tested positive for Covid.

As for the meeting with Sue Gray, which the Nš10 spokesperson said had been called by Sue Gray before later admitting that Nš10 had requested the meeting, it is being reported today by The Times, among others, that the motive of the meeting was that Boris Johnson pressured Sue Gray to drop the 'independent' report completely.

Forget getting him out of office. Get him locked up.

Maybe I am not following properly, can someone clarify:

- these regular, weekly parties that were happening in the above article - did the police investigate those as such and the 126 fines represent the output of all of those or is this actually new news coming out and somewhere there has been a cover up or a miss by the police?

- will Sue Grays report cover all of this or , again, will it miss this as being stuff that is just coming out?

No angle - I havent followed recently as it has bored me to tears - dont get me wrong, I am the first in line when it comes to wanting Boris out, he is a disgrace and the Tories are a disgrace, IMO. But I just wanted to understand the actual events being described and where they sit in relation to the Met and Sue Gray investigations...forgive me if it is all clear in the article, I only skim read it
