Oh dear. That Mr Farage has dropped himself in it again.

He was asked on TV yesterday morning why 41 of his approved candidates for the GE were facebook 'friends' of a known fascist and Nazi sympathiser. His response was:

"Reform paid a vetting company £144k to carry out candidate checks. Not a single piece of work was delivered. Colin Bloom has links to the Tory party and has very serious questions to answer. Lawyers have been instructed and we do not rule out police action."

Turns out, Colin Bloom runs a website called vetting.com   This is NOT a vetting company.  It is an online platform where you purchase a license so that you can perform your OWN vetting using that platform.

Farage is a dangerous lair and with Clacton currently polling an almost equal three way fight between Labour, Tory and Reform, it is absolutely ripe for some tactical voting from Lib Dem and Green supporters.  Sadly no dolphin is running this time.

Putting aside the other comments (yes, he is a liar and dangerous!), Clacton isnt that close, is it - Farage is a long way in front if the latest Electoral Calculus update is to be believed - not even all Lib Dem or Green voters going Labour could catch up that gap as it stands...

I saw a completely different poll - Survation - which showed

REF - 30.73%

CON - 29.44%

LAB - 27.59%

GREEN - 6.19%

LIBDEM - 4.77%

Might be out of date now, so maybe you are right.

Of course the funniest poll of all was one posted by Lee Anderson, showing him well clear in his own constituency.

As pointed out in the Community Note, the data behind the poll was 'user defined'. In simple terms, he just made it all up LOL.

I think Electoral Calculus update in line with poll averages updates, might be wrong...

The latest bet365 odds for Clacton are :

Reform. 2/9
Conservative 4/1
Labour 7/1

So far from judged a shoo-in as yet. But Farage fairly strong favourite and I can't really see much at all tactical vote switching between the Tories and Labour.

I dont follow betting at all, but isnt 9-2 odds on a pretty close thing to shoo in? Maybe I dont understand odd making (I dont!)

To my mind, if it is considered a shoo-in, then you wouldn't be getting offered £2 against £9 of your pounds.

To my mind it would need to be 1/10 or more odds on before consideration as a shoo-in.

Now this one just made me laugh. Headline from column writer Ian Leslie in the Telegraph.

"We need to talk about Starmer's old age".

He's 61 for heaven's sake.   confuse

Don't need to speak about his age, his overwhelming lack of charisma yes, but not his age.

To be honest, Boris Johnson is probably the most charismatic politician I have seen in my lifetime so if that is the criteria by which we should judge our politicians, I'll take a dull and boring safe pair of hands eight days a week and twice on Sundays.

I'm not looking for charisma - that's a social media sort of reality TV thing, as far as I'm concerned

And I absolutely don't care about how they speak, nasal whine or not

I'd rather I didn't see much of our prime minister, or hear him/her very much either

I'd rather they just got on with the job, and did a decent one, rather than doing soundbites and caring if they looked charismatic or how their voice comes across

The unspeakable, odious, obnoxious Farage in a nutshell, as presented by Hugo Rifkind in yesterday's Times.
