Fantastic stuff from Tessa - (first time seeing her play). She is my kind of player - courageously aggressive regardless of errors. It eventually comes good. Coming from 0-40 down to hold. That's what aggressive play does. I am a fan. Serve needs work though. Shame Konta isn't attacking it.
If Jo gets her forehand back on track, watchout, will be interesting to see whether there's a big improvement there when I get to see her during the grasscourt season.
Yes, no chance of either JoKo or Emily featuring as half of their successful Anglo/French doubles partnerships. 7 doubles wildcards went to 14 French players.
The last DA for doubles was CR180, last I looked, with Joss+Anna missing out by 8 places, based on their ranking on the relevant week. A week earlier, or a week later, and they may have scraped in.
Tessah has got a wildcard for the Roland Garros qualifications.
So I guess she'll be a very happy bunny and the loss won't sit too badly with her. Who knows, they might meet up again
And shows the French attitude to wildcards is give 'em out (to French players, of course!). No matter that she's only ranked WR 967 !
Glad to hear she got a RG qualies wildcard, she's got a good aggressive game/mindset from the little I saw today - which sits well with senior level tennis. Needs to work on serve.
And a big YES, I love the French attitude towards wildcards. Gives everyone with some potential a chance and not just to the "same old same old" of GB with the "same old same old" outcome.
Was expecting a comfortable Jo win as it happened, which in no way detracts from Tessa's quality.

Sorry, Phil - didn't see that post (only saw the first set and had to leave).
As others said above, and from the first set, she was hitting the ball really nicely (and, yes, that weird new 'technique' (!) on her forehand seemed less apparent, thank the powers that be). Of course, some of her opponent's balls were perhaps a little soft, so maybe made it easier for her, but Tessah played well, it was no slamdunk. It was the best I've seen Jo play for a while.

Yes, I like the mixing it up too Wildcards to a couple of promising youngsters on the 'why not' principle. Just as important, wildcards to some of the old timers to say 'thank you' as a reward for services rendered and because the audience know them and it's always a good story. Wildcards to anybody who's got a sob story... the list goes one. (There are also, admittedly, a couple of wildcards in the list this year (as every year) on the basis of 'coz my dad's important in the federation structure so I'm always going to get one'. Not so good but it all makes up the mix . . .).
