L16: Jo Konta WR 143 vs (WC) Tessah Andrianjafitrimo (FRA) WR 967 (CH = 961 last month)
Tessah is only 16 with a JWR of 57 (JCH 51 in January), and she defeated a top 100 player in the last round. This may not be as easy as it looks on paper.
Tessah's great She's not really in the FFT system, home-schooled, trained by her dad, ex tennis champion of Madagascar, a real character.
I hope JoKo wins (youngsters have plenty of time!). But I've known Tessah since she was little and she's got some great stuff going on.
Jo served for the set but they got broken. Nice match though.... Sharon is a nimble doubles player and Jo has her zones well marked out - always in the same place, but why not when it generally works . . .
and Tessah responds in kind with some cracking winners but JoKo serves well to save the BPs and hold onto the lead. (Jo starting to take some swings on Tessah's serve - hope she carries on - it's not the greatest).
