RE: Week 18 - ITF 100k Cagnes-sur-Mer, France, Clay

Lived very dangerously there, but managed to hold for 5-5*, and have just broken to 30.

*6-5

1st set 4-2 became 4-5, then 7-5.
2nd set 4-0 became 4-5, then 7-5.

Great stuff but a strange match that maybe they could have won more easily.

As things stand, Anna and Joss probably won't have a high enough ranking for RG acceptance - now round about 89/90, after this QF win. Were they to win this tournament, their new ranking - around 82/83 would be very close to the cut. Not sure which week of doubles rankings is used for the entry list. Does anybody know?

Given that alot of singles players who never ever play doubles the rest of the year, play at the GS's to pick up the pay cheque. The entry rank is usually top 70 or better, not sure what it was at the Oz open, so it's looking very doubtful sadly.

The provisional RG doubles list is out this week, but there is time for chopping and changing partners. They may as well enter though as Phil says I doubt they will get in.

I take it then that top women's singles players can get into the doubles based on their singles rankings like with the men.

Somehow, I've never been aware of this with the women.

Maybe one of them needs to get in touch with Heather

I do think that the rule that allows players to enter a doubles tournament based on singles ranking is plain daft. Unfortunate also that their ranking this week is in a now-temporary dip to around their lowest of the year to date.
