Shame for Kyle. That's 3 QFs in 3 weeks. Solid return over this stretch but I am sure he would have hoped to go further on at least one of those occasions. Let's see how he does in Masters Qualies next week.
Kyle has withdrawn from Rome (he was 13th alternate anyway, so unlikely to get in).
I would guess that the main difficulty for Kyle is that after a couple of years of playing predominately on clay he spent 11 months away from the dirt and his on his return to it has run up against two or three out and out clay courters.

OK. Thanks. Time for a bit of R&R then before an assault on the FO qualies.

As I said a few weeks ago Kyle doesn't seem like the kind of player who benefits from over playing. There are some players who can play week in week out for months at a time without a problem while others need regular breaks from playing in order to recharge both mentally and physically. I think Liam fits the former category while Kyle is in the second.

Yes. I think the rest will do him good. Unlike some others, Kyle is not what I would call a naturally gifted athlete and I am sure he has to work very hard on his fitness and mobility, much like Andy M had to in his younger days.
I think those that are blessed with more natural athletic ability, (I guess of the younger generation, Kyrgios would be the prime example) can probably go on for longer without breaks.
Pity Kyle couldn't get the win and make the SF for itself, but also to make it an all Brit SF.
But Kyle continues in general to progress forward and while he may not flicker as brightly as a few ( and it is just a few ) of his approximate compemporaries, some others have flickered and faded or not really flickered at all since their junior days.
No worries about allegiance tomorrow, then. Tough luck Kyle, I was just hoping he'd break the QF barrier this time.
I'm pretty confident that Aljaz can take this tournament and I think that he is a Tour-quality player. The best thing about his Chennai final, for me, was how he beat 3 great players on the way to it. Hopefully this is the year that he wins a round in a grand slam and gets his ranking up to a competitive level for the bigger tournaments. For now, though, hopefully he can follow his seeding and take the tourney.
If Aljaz can win the tournament it should take him to around 73-75 in the world ranking closing in on his CH of 71 and it looks like he isn't defending any points until Wimbledon.
