Toby went 0-3 down, but then won 7 points in a row to complete a 1-6 6-4 7-6(3) victory.
I know that Toby keeps emphasizing right now the improvement in his game is more important than results and rankings, but today's result will give him a new CH ranking when the points go on in 10 days time. With last weeks QF and this weeks final, that is a net gain of 11 points. This should take Toby into the top 650 for the first time, with the final still to come.
If he improves his game, the results will come, after all.
Exactly. And hopefully it works both ways, as the results that are now coming will reinforce the belief that the changes he is making to his game are the right ones and that he is moving forwards.
SF: (7) Toby Martin WR 737 beat Hugo Grenier (FRA) WR 795 (= CH) 1-6 6-4 7-6(3)
Final: (7) Toby Martin WR 737 vs (3) Amir Weintraub (ISR) WR 625 (CH 161 May 2012)
Going to be a very tough ask for Toby. Weintraub's ranking is made up of just 3 scoring events. In May last year, he made the QFs of two Challengers before losing in Q1 of both Roland Garros and Wimbledon. From that point, he did not play again until last month where he made the last 16 of a Challenger.
He won last weeks tournament (points not added yet to his ranking) and has not dropped a set over these two weeks. His 9 straight victories have been:
Last week 0&2 4&1 1&4 2&2 3&4
This week 1&4 4&1 0&1 2&5
I sure hope Toby isn't reading this
In all seriousness, Weintraub starts favourite, but Toby is clearly playing well too. Whatever the result, this has been a big step forward for Toby this week.

Whenever Weintraub plays at Futures level in Israel, he tends to crush almost any opponent he comes up against - indeed, their only previous meeting was in the QFs here in 2012, when Weintraub won 1 & 0. Hopefully Toby can improve on that, at least, but it has been an excellent week for him either way.

That's very well put - and succinct. And exactly what I was trying to say, more generally, on one of the other threads (in a far more long-winded way !)
