Alright James, I'm gonna make it pretty simple for you. None of this ranking calculation nonsense - win the tournament and you've made it. Cheers!

Meant to add that the top seed here is Lucas Pouille (FRA), WR 98 (= CH).

That intended as a dash of cold water, SC? We live in hope nonetheless ...

I still think his rise up the rankings over the past year is partly due to uncanny tournament selection and soft draws and this seems like another weak field. However, does anyone know, or have a rough idea, how far in advance James would have to have declared that he wanted to play this tournament as opposed to an ATP Main Tour qualifier or one of the other ATP Challenger events where there is more money on offer and would he get a chance to look over the quality/competitiveness of the field which had already been entered. Perhaps every player is allowed to do this and if so, well I suppose that's fair enough.

And in the doubles:

R1:  (1 biggrin ) Ruben Gonzales (PHI) & Darren Walsh CR 335 (179+156) vs Jan Mertl & Adam Pavlasek (CZE/CZE) CR 709 (460+249)

Looking at the draw, I believe this is the best chance Ward has had of cracking the top 100. Firmly believe he'll do it this week

Definitely. He really should be able to make the final, if not win the tournament, and that might well be enough. Making the final would take him to 541 points which is 3 more than would have been needed this week.

Even if you make James a fairly heavy favourite to win each round he's under 50% to reach the final.

Of course, but much better odds than anyone else in his half of the draw.
