Jeezo Hev. What a way to lose after such a massive slog and huge effort to even get it to that tiebreak after being a set and a break down, and a break down twice in the third. That's a confidence killer (again).
I remember I used to think clay would turn out to be her best surface, probably not now with the new game style. A disappointing, but wholly unsurprising loss, but jeezo what a sore way to finish. So close to absolutely stealing a match she never looked like winning.
Still too inconsistent at the basic WTA Level to make a realistic move upwards at the moment. Couple of very big events coming in with Rome and Madrid, so maybe she can find something there.

The fact that Hev was able to get herself into a winning position as well 3-0 4-2 and 5-3 in that TB after looking down and out 3-1 down in the 2nd, not sure what to say. 3 hours long as well.

Comebacks don't really count for anything if you don't finish the job sadly
Real pity and annoying she seemed to fight so well and it got away at the end.
But unless Heather absolutely somehow threw it away at the end I am not sure why it should be such a confidence killer - even if clearly winning it would have been a good boost.
Looks more a very competitive match, certainly for match time almost worth two matches, on her return from a few weeks off.
Will be a blow for Heather to lose such a close and long match.
It continues a very inconsistent season where she has generally done really well or lost first round but at an average very similar to last season (she is 39 in the race vs 40 overall on current rankings).
She might have to spend a bit of time this season working out how best to play on clay, as an aggressive style is difficult to play effectively without big power to 'hit through the surface'
