Week 17 - ATP 250 - Munich - red clay (doubles)

Some surprise packages in the draw!

R1:  (3) Raven Klaasen & Lukas Rosol (RSA/CZE) CR 76 (28+48) vs Andy Murray & Jean-Julien Rojer (NED) CR 583 (572 (*) +11)
R1:  Colin Fleming & Jonny Marray CR 142 (79+63) vs Rameez Junaid & Adil Shamasdin (AUS/CAN) CR 117 (62+55)

The winners of the above matches face one another in the QF.

R1:  Victor Estrella & João Souza (DOM/BRA) CR 273 (145+128) vs (2) Jamie Murray & John Peers CR 51 (26+25)

(*)  I presume Andy & JJR got in courtesy of Andy's singles ranking.  He's the top seed in the singles.

Jamie & John are the defending champions here:  they defeated Colin & Ross by 4 & 2 in last year's final.

JJR is one of Mr Murray's closest friends, is he not? Would guess they could be quite a good team. Pity that they have to meet Messrs Fleming and Marray in the QFs though, especially with the former defending so many points. And the sibling issues if both Murray pairs get to the finals don't bear thinking about! (Has that happened before?)

Don't know whether the week would be sociable - or just highly competitive between all the Brits!

If Andy wasn't playing with a doubles specialist I would expect him to tank a match against his good mate Colin.

If and when the moment comes, I wonder if there may be a timely "niggle" which isn't worth risking given his singles focus.

Similar to the same temporary niggle which saw Muller withdraw a while back, letting in his big bro as a LL.

Perhaps, but I really would be disappointed if Andy did something like that when he has entered an event with a double specialist.

I doubt he would; sounds as if he's doing this to help out one of his best friends during a partner's down-time. Wouldn't really do to offer to help a friend only to let him down on behalf of another friend. Everyone's adult; one can only assume they'll all do their best and leave it at that.

Yep, it's JJR's day job. The other Brits who may appear in Andy and JJR's way will need to fight for any win.

No divided loyalties in the quarter-final - every prospect of revenge for Colin's & Jonny's narrow defeat this morning:

QF:  Andy Murray & Jean-Julien Rojer (NED) CR 584 (572+11) vs Rameez Junaid & Adil Shamasdin (AUS/CAN) CR 121 (66+55)
