Em and An-Sophie have taken the first set of the SF against the number 1 seeds, taking 3 out of 4 BPs, compared to the Japanese duo who only managed 1 out of 5.
I'm not a doubles fan it's lower ability tennis but I do think Em should maybe concentrate on doubles like Anna Smith did. She's not going to be any higher than 300 in singles but could probably be a top 50 player in doubles and make a living out of it.
I have certainly thought that Emily could stretch her career out by in time concentrating more on doubles. She definitely seems to have an aptitude for it and I can see the case that she could now have more success in doubles as opposed to singles.
But it appears to me that Emily very much likes just doing her thing, she travels the world playing tennis and seemibgly enjoying that and appreciating the whole experience.
Yes, she clearly wants to win as much as possible too, but if continuing to play singles is part of what gives her a buzz then good luck to her and and she can shift her priorities if and when it suits her.
Em should already be at a new career high, around 170, if she loses in the final - and passes NaomiB in the process. Up to around ranking 157 with a win. Previous CH = 174.
But Joss and Anna struggle both to make a living, or to make many WTA main draws, and they are ranked 90=, with around double the ranking points of Em's new total.
OTOH, Em now looks like a very obvious contender for doubles WCs for the upcoming tournaments on her favourite surface at Nottingham, B-ham, Eastbourne and Wimbledon. So she could well get several shots at picking up shedloads of points - perhaps enough to look at a fulltime tilt at WTA level doubles, by July 2015.
Then, July 2015 and onwards results and ranking points start to count towards acceptance to the Rio Olympics...?!? She's now, with Heather, half of our second highest-ranked pair.
I count 35 women in the WTA top 200 doubles rankings who are older than her.
