She's been focusing on doubles and only playing a bit of singles here and there (usually with middling success but she played very well out in Kuala Lumpur). I wondered if she might be trying to make Wimbledon main draw, but I think she's too late for that to be possible now.

As last year's French Open doubles champion, it does seem a bit off that she is not in Stuttgart.

Got an interesting technique as well, remember her beating Laura in her only WTA final. Em playing some decent stuff in the last couple of weeks on the singles court.

I caught a few games of this sporadically. Em took advantage of a terrible start from Hsieh to go up a break, but then lost two long service games at *2-1 and *2-3 (missing 3 game points in both) and after that it was pretty much one way traffic. Hsieh was moving very well (she's fast!) hitting the ball cleanly and flat, dragging Em all over the court, and Em was trying various different things but couldn't find a way to break through.

Basically just lost to a player who is quite a bit better than her. Bit more time to get to Japan for Gifu qualies.

Not an unexpected result; yep, here's hoping Em can recapture the Gifu magic of 2011 when she reached the 50k final there :)

That's fairly odd. I made the comment in re: her match against her first opponent ... but for some reason it didn't show up until after she played (and as you correctly state) lost against her second opponent. Most peculiar.
