L16: Joe Salisbury WR 793 vs (8) Harry Bourchier (AUS) WR 583 (= CH) L16: Josh Ward-Hibbert WR 592 vs (3) Michal Konecny (CZE) WR 461 (CH = 286 in August 2012)
He won the first set 6-2 but is down 0-2 in the second.
Big thanks, DWH, for the heads up.
Thoroughly 'enjoyed' that third set. Well, 'enjoyed' not really being the right word - just SO josh - the good , the bad and the ugly - flashes of brilliance and exuberance, but then zero rhythm or game plan - whole chunks where no two shots are hit the same, as though he's just wants to go through the whole repertoire of shots, no real clue what is the best choice, and so ends up in a complete tailspin . . . but he did well to come through - the other guy will be livid with himself - and Josh really did buckle down and put in the added effort (as, bless him, he can when he wants to) at the end.
He did manage a tournament win out in Tunisia at the end of last year - which is pretty consistent. He just needs to build on that.
I'm not sure inconsistent is the right word. Marcus Willis's results are inconsistent, Toby Martin's results are consistent, it doesn't necessarily reflect on their ability.
Josh seems to have been a bit inconsistent for quite a while. I have been hearing much the same good and bad points for I'd say rather too long.
Time for the potential folk talk about to be more focussed towards getting better tennis results with a more mature game.

You've got a point . . .
However, in many ways Josh has been remarkably consistent this year - barely won a match !
And even if you look at his result sheet, the Tunisian win looks almost more like a statistical quirk than actual inconsistency . . .
In fact, for me, it's the inconsistency WITHIN the match that does my head in . . .
But, as everyone knows, I DO think he'll get it together, and in a major way - albeit, always with the same ups and downs and general character - you can't change who you are. And it makes it fun to watch (at times).
But, yes, do hope he works on the stuff that needs work. Net net, great win Josh - and good luck for the next

Joe could have made it easier for himself: he was *4-1 at one point in the decider, then served for it at 6-5... The Aussie teenager clearly doesn't give up easily!

On the face of it, Joe has by far the tougher task!
