A real challenge for Ryan as you point out he doesn't appear to have played on clay as either a junior or senior, it will be interesting to see how it goes.

Congrats to Ryan - very pleased for him.

I know that he's canceled some other tournaments he was thinking about possibly entering, deciding that it's not about chasing points, but about really buckling down and working hard, with new coaches, a new system, and looking more at long-term progress. Wise lad . . .

What are Ryan's new arrangements?  Is he no longer based in the States?

No. I believe the family has moved back to the UK and Ryan is now at Gosling. Loads of new stuff to learn and loving it, seemingly. (For instance, never really done conditioning training as such, so all a steep learning curve).

I do continue to find Ryan the most interesting and potentially maybe the best of the GB junior boys.

I was going to post that I thought Ryan style would suit clay. He keeps a lot of balls in play and grinds out points.

From the livestreams, I agree Paulisi - natural top-spin and high trajectory, good knee-bend - seems like made for clay.

Also, I think he's grown up playing a lot of competitive tennis, including team tennis (at local level, but in a local area where the standard is high). This, in my view, adds to it too. It's one of the main differences when you see 'average' young British and 'average' young continental players - the comparative big lack of competition, and team especially, really shows in the Brits' game. Ryan is the opposite.

Ryan will be very interesting to follow. Great win in R1 and followed it up in R2, but I seem to remember his serve having a few issues last year. Perhaps he's working out the kinks.
