Few Brits likely to be among the top seeds unusually here, though Lauryn John-Baptiste, Megan Davies and Eliz Maloney should feature. Also on the entrant list is former top 100 junior Emily Smith. The drawsheet should be up soon at http://www.itftennis.com/juniors/tournaments/tournament/info.aspx?tournamentid=1100033680
Just a note that we have a couple of 13yr olds playing here(apologies if I've missed anyone) but both Oliva Elliot and Esther Adeshina came through their opening matches. One more win guarantees them ranking points.
Sophie Drakeford-Lewis, the local girl to me (Reading) has just beaten the top seed in straight sets. She now needs to consolidate this by going far in the tournament. She does not play that much internationally with other interests in netball and concentrating on her GCSEs.
Nice to get some feedback on the lesser known players and good to see education comes first. No Joy for the youngsters today. This is quite a strong tournament judging by who is left - Miller, Maloney, John-Baptiste, Davies, Griffiths, Smith, Timotin, Ortevall
I have never come across Lisa-Marie before, but imagine she has French or Canadian ancestry. Sophie's success was shortlived, but Emily upset the 4th seed
QF
Nell Miller v (6) Eliz Maloney
(3) Lauryn John-Baptiste v (7) Timea Pavlickova (SVK)
(5) Megan Davies v (14) Emily Smith
Have been following Lauryn's progress quite closely. Not perhaps our highest profile junior but she seems very solid in all departments to me and has quietly been making steady progress. I'm sure we'll be seeing more of her name in years to come. Also, the fact that she came up through the initiative on the park courts in Hackney (along with Savannah S) appeals to me as I'm sure she's an inspiration to all those following in her footsteps.
