Girls: Easter Bowl Championship (Closed), USA, hard - Grade B1 (Week 14)

Just as last year Katie Swan is one of three non-Americans to be allowed to compete in this closed event. She is defending final points from last year, with some strong seeds barring her way to the final.

R1 (L64)

(Q) Amanda Anisimova (USA) v (2) Katie Swan

Interesting to see Katie's motivation now in Juniors, especially bot being a big event.

She needs to aim for a top 10 finish at least to get the extra JE next year. Winning big titles would be a bonus

And won her dubs too.

Plays Morgan Coppoc next, 15 year-old wildcard, ranked 321

Katy may have some general junior ranking she'd like to reach. But I'd still prefer her mixing in senior events to help her development rather than 'chasing' junior ranking points after any particular ranking and nominal JE priviledge.

The junior Slams fair enough, plus mabe some other biggish junior events such as this one.

That may well be how she'll go ...

If she does that and gets good results the ranking will take care of itself. I think it's important for her to mix in senior events too for her development.

I'd suspect she'll play some of the bigger junior clay events leading up to RG juniors. Then maybe some senrio grass events before Roehampton and junior Wimbledon?

I'd expect to see her play the 50K tournaments on the grass in the UK

It's now Katie vs the USA in the singles, the New Zealand and Peruvian seeds having lost in R1.

The New Zealand girl is still in the doubles.

Isn't one of the 50K's the same week as junior RG though? Surely better for Katie to experience the junior slam atmosphere?

No idea - I didn't check the dates.

Katie will play RG

Edit - there are three consecutive 50K's, Eastbourne (same week as RG), Surbiton and then Ilkley. Katie will surely play at least one of the two.

Apparently, the girl who Katie beat in the first round is a top-ranked US 13 year old (2001) who is highly thought of by the USTA

Also an explanation as to why she didn't play last week.
