Bit of a mountain to climb here then for Ed.

5-2* and Mertl is 16/18 on serve this set

Ed had 0-30 but wasn't to be. Mertl served it out

R1:  (WC) Grégoire Barrère & Marc Gicquel (FRA/FRA) CR 555 (348+207) defeated (3) Andreas Beck (GER) & Ken Skupski CR 359 (245+114) by 6-3 1-6 [10-7]

Despite the rankings disparity, I can't say I'm all that surprised by that result. hmm

I presume little brother will now move ahead of Ken in the rankings due to Ken having played an extra tournament.

R1:  (1) Wesley Koolhof & Matwé Middelkoop (NED/NED) CR 288 (137+151) "defeated" Dan Cox & Marcus Willis CR 659 (309+350) by a walkover

Sadly, not unexpected. cry

Walsh and Gonzalez have the first set 6-2

(Poor Marcus stuck at the airport while the air personnel exercise their much-loved right to strike . . . )

did not have decent gym equipment at St Brie Marcus went running on roads in stead of his normal cardio on bikes/X-trainer and is prone to problems with his back which is worry and as fomer Long distance runner with  chronic injuries as a result I  am very anti running . When your big guy like Marcus more at risk. No more running on roads . Need no impact cardios and physiso . Maybe yoga good idea . I was shocked on how many times Japanese player broke Marcus serve he said because of back tightened up he could not serve flat our like did against Dan . This has been a problem before and properly aggravated by the amount of training been doing to improve conditioning. Need make sure doing sufficient stretching excercises on a daily basis .

Oh dear!  Looks as though the wheels came off big time!  They battled back from *1-4 in the second set, but couldn't do it again at 5-6*! hmm
